Social Impact Programs Pivot To Meet Evolving Needs Of Communities During Pandemic

LAS VEGAS (June 30, 2021) – Wynn Resorts has been named a 2021 honoree on The Civic 50 list by Points of Light, the world's largest organization dedicated to volunteer service. The Civic 50 list includes companies with annual revenues of at least $1 billion USD that have taken part in a third-party evaluation of their social impact programs, measured against a national standard. Throughout this challenging year, Wynn Resorts moved quickly to adapt the Company's community outreach efforts in sophisticated and creative new ways to fill operational gaps for nonprofits, health organizations, and civic institutions.

"One of Wynn Resorts guiding principles has always been to 'care about everyone and everything,' a promise we are proud to fulfill every day in ways that extend far beyond the walls of our resorts," said Matt Maddox, CEO of Wynn Resorts. "In many ways, 2020 was the ultimate test of this commitment, and our dedicated workforce remained nimble during a time when needs changed daily. We are grateful to The Civic 50 and Points of Light for recognizing Wynn Resorts as a trusted agent of change."

Highlights of the social impact work that Wynn Resorts has been recognized for include:

  • In 2020, Wynn Resorts donated over $23 million USD in funds and in-kind donations to charities, which includes $4.75 million in direct COVID-19 relief efforts, nearly $1 million in food and meals, and over 2.5 million pieces of personal protective equipment.
  • In 2020, Wynn Resorts global workforce volunteered over 34,000 hours of time, primarily focused on COVID-19 relief efforts. The new Virtual Volunteerism Program was created in response to stay-at-home orders in North America and offered a flexible way for Wynn employees to volunteer for dozens of nonprofits without having to leave work or home.
  • Wynn Resorts CEO Matt Maddox spearheaded the creation of the hospitality industry's first science-based Health & Safety Plan, which was shared with any non-profit organization that requested it. The plan became the preeminent roadmap not only to Wynn Resorts successful reopening effort, but dozens more with policies adopted by several other international brands and industries.
  • Employees in North America contributed over $500,000 to the Wynn Employee Foundation. Along with matching contributions from the Company, these donations helped fund organizations dealing with food insecurity and domestic violence as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Wynn Las Vegas collaborated with University Medical Center (UMC) to open the UMC COVID-19 Vaccination Center, the first vaccination site to be located onsite at a resort, which administered over 50,000 vaccinations to the community.
  • Assisted the Southern Nevada Health District with its ramped-up contact tracing efforts by allocating more than 100 team members from the Wynn Teleservices Call Center.
  • Raised more than $700,000 for the national ALL IN Challenge To Help Fight Food Insecurity, through a collection of the resort's most exclusive luxuries, including some that money typically cannot buy.

To help nonprofits better weather pandemic-related operational challenges while strategically planning their recovery, Wynn Resorts created two new initiatives:

  • The Nonprofit Leadership Fellows Program tailored for a select group of nonprofit leaders to help improve their strategic planning skills through interaction with and learning from Wynn executives.
  • The Stronger Together Collective intended to enhance resources for and to encourage collaboration among nonprofit partners.

Since it was launched in 2012, The Civic 50 has provided a roadmap for good corporate citizenship and is the only survey and ranking system that exclusively measures corporate involvement in communities. The Civic 50 survey is administered by True Impact, a company specializing in helping organizations maximize and measure their social and business value, and consists of quantitative and multiple-choice questions that inform the scoring process.
